A brief description of Renee’s specialized training:
Gestalt means complete or whole pattern. In Gestalt theory and therapy, all aspects (intellectual, physical, spiritual, emotional) of the client are regarded as significant, especially as they exist in the present. Clients are assisted in discovering how they inhibit their own well-being, and are supported in finding authentic, creative solutions to their difficulties.
Physical process/body psychotherapy assumes that we are embodied beings possessing an inseparable unity between body and mind. Clients address their concerns not only through talking, but also by becoming more conscious of how they speak, breathe, move, and where they experience emotion and sensation in their bodies. Body Psychotherapy is used to address physical problems and issues typically treated in any form of psychotherapy. A variety of techinques (including breath, sound, or movement) may be employed. Touch may be used only if appropriate and with client's full consent.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an extensively researched method of psychotherapy that seems to directly affect the way the brain processes information. While scientific research has determined EMDR an effective treatment for post traumatic stress, clinicians also report success in treating:
- complicated grief
- performance anxiety
- pain disorders
- stress
- body dysmorphic disorder
- disturbing memories
- panic attacks
- phobias
- eating disorders
- addictions
- sexual and/or physical abuse
- personality disorders
- dissociative disorders
- other types of psychological distress
